Product Overview

The eSpace IAD196 is a media access gateway designed for NGN and IMS networks, responsible for converting analog voice and fax services into IP data for transmission over IP networks. The device connects to the NGN/IMS via the SIP protocol and completes call routing between calling and called parties under the control of an MGC or SIP Server.

Flexible uplink access: The device can connect via RTU to a DSLAM over xDSL copper lines, through a switch to an IP network, or via GPON/EPON fiber optics. It provides 2 FE ports—FE1 for uplink and FE2 for cascading, both operating simultaneously—to support hierarchical expansion of branch offices. Common use cases include providing analog phone and fax connectivity for home offices and small-to-medium branches, as well as offering analog interfaces to remote users when paired with IMS/NGN solutions.

Key Features

  • SIP access to NGN/IMS; call path setup for calling and called parties under MGC or SIP Server control
  • Supports xDSL (via RTU to DSLAM), switch, and GPON/EPON uplink options; deployable in both copper and fiber-to-building scenarios.
  • 2 FE ports operate simultaneously with FE1 as uplink and FE2 cascaded, enabling step-by-step branch expansion.
  • Complete conversion between analog voice and IP data, supporting VoIP/FoIP access for analog telephones and fax machines.

Product Positioning
VoIP/FoIP Media Access Gateway for NGN or IMS networks
Signaling Protocol
SIP: Connects to NGN/IMS and manages call routing under control of MGC or SIP Server.
Uplink Access
xDSL (via RTU to DSLAM), switch access, and GPON/EPON
Network Interface
2 FE ports: FE1 is the uplink port, FE2 is the cascading port; both operate simultaneously (active-active, not active-standby).
Business Type
Simulate voice and fax (FoIP) access to convert analog voice data to IP data.
Typical Applications
Supports enterprise home office and small/medium branch simulated user access; enables remote analog subscriber access via IMS/NGN integration.
Relay Recommendation
For high-call-volume sites (e.g., call center ingress), use E1 digital trunks instead of FXO to avoid slow connections and caller billing issues.
